The most populous municipality in Gallura

Situated at around 83 m above sea level, it is, after Olbia, the most populous municipality in Gallura, a territory in the north-east of Sardinia. Located about 25 km from Olbia and 45 km from Tempio Pausania, it has considerable importance from an economic point of view, being together with Olbia a very dynamic reality, both demographically due to the population which has almost tripled since the sixties and continues to grow at a of +16% every decade, both economically from a tourism and hospitality point of view. The municipality, a fraction of Tempio Pausania until 1922, is divided into different hamlets and contains the famous tourist resort called Costa Smeralda.
